Skeptical isn't quite the word to describe how I felt about spending a fair sum at a self-service kiosk on the promise of receiving a working spare key in the mail for my Toyota, but there seemed to be no disclaimer in fine print, so I took the plunge and crossed my fingers. A couple of days later, I get a small unmarked cardboard envelope in the mail. Inside is the new spare. It's a transponder key, so not only does the cut have to duplicate the original, but the electronic signals between the car and the new key also have to match, or else the ignition will be disabled. Well, not only did the new key work flawlessly in the ignition, but also in two locks that my old key had ceased to work in: the passenger door and the tailgate. So my old key is now the spare. I'm kind of regretting not taking the option to purchase a second key at a discounted rate. (You have to make that selection when you make your initial purchase.) Overall: this is a great service. If you need a spare automotive key, don't hesitate.

My new key works perfectly so now I have the necessary 2 transponder keys for should I get a 3rd I can have it programmed to my minivan’s security system thanks to the kiosk reading the code from the original key.

I was concerned as the keys looked a bit different than my own. However, it clearly stated on the machine not to worry about this as they were being reset back to factory details. I was sceptical to say the least. When I got home every single key worked perfectly
